A Novice 45-min Waterfall Jungle hike just 10 minutes out of Alotau we will make our way through a small village and down a stream into the jungle. The hike is not too steep and quite short, allowing you to witness exotic tropical fauna and potential wildlife. We will spend sometime cooling off under the waterfall and in its pools. Enjoying some snacks and fresh fruit, we will then turn back to the village. Before we head back to town you will have the opportunity to meet with some of the villagers and purchase art from the market.
The Novice 45-min Waterfall Jungle, is the beginning of the Moderate Waterfall hike. Just 10 minutes out of Alotau we will make our way through a small village and down a stream into the jungle. You will get to meet some of the friendly locals as they guide us through the dense rain forests along a stream passing multiple waterfalls big and small. This trek is for the more adventurous as the jungle is very dense and humid. The 3 hour hike has a lot of ups and downs but is well worth it when you swim, cool down, and take in the beauty. Back in the village a traditional meal will be prepared for you to enjoy over laughs and storytelling.
Travel 2 hours by road to a small village on the East Cape of Milne Bay Province. You will be welcome by the villagers with a dance and refreshment. We will the trek into the jungle to see a creepy spectacle of Papua New Guineas history. Deep in the jungle as well as on Bonarua Island and many other locations in Milne Bay, are caves filled with human skulls. Although the tradition of head hunting and cannibalism has far since left Papua New Guinea, there are still remints of a darker time.
Located only 20 mins from Gurney airport, Alotau. This hike is for the experienced trekker only, with not well maintained trails and a fast paced local guide. This 4-6 hour hike will take you into the mountains to view WW2 gun placements aimed towards to combat Japanese military ships as they invaded PNG. There are also caves where soldiers were rumored to have hid during battle. This trek offers an astounding view of the bay, and a real feel for trekking through the dense jungles of PNG
